West Tennessee Street begins in downtown Tallahassee and continues west through the FSU campus and beyond, forming the northern gateway to the campus. Working closely with the campus Landscape Architect and Facilities Director, City of Tallahassee staff and FDOT, Genesis prepared plans that complement pedestrian improvements including new mid-block crossings and new iron fencing and address erosion on steep slopes. Slopes are stabilized with erosion control fabric and groundcover. Historic Crape Myrtle trees in medians are substantially preserved with approximately 14 mature trees being relocated to other locations within the project. A low-maintenance “garden” design was developed for roadway medians using a mixture of native shrubs and grasses, flowering bulbs, agave and hardy roses.
