SR 4 @ CR 189 Intersection Improvements

Client: Florida Department of Transportation District 3
Location: Okaloosa County, FL
Size: 0.5 miles
Service: Transportation & Mobility

Contact Staff: James P. Sullivan, P.E.

Under a continuing services contract with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Genesis was responsible for design and construction assistance for a project to add a southbound right turn lane on SR 4 at the intersection of CR 189 (Galliver Cutoff) in Okaloosa County, Florida. The intersection experiences a high volume of truck traffic attempting to access I-10 located approximately ten miles to the south. The project site is located with a horizontal curve and the roadway is superelevated away from the intersection, to the east. To avoid sending additional stormwater runoff to the east, the new roadway and shoulder pavement was sloped to the west. The existing swale was widened and re-graded to provide stormwater treatment for the additional impervious area.

Additional right of way was necessary for widening the roadway. Genesis identified the amount of right of way taking required and assisted the FDOT with preparation of updated right of way maps. Both underground and overhead utilities were required to be relocated to the new right of way line to avoid conflict with the roadway improvements. Genesis supported the construction of this project with specific Engineer of Record services including, shop drawing reviews, site inspections and responding to Requests for Information.
