The purpose of this Communications Master Plan is to facilitate the implementation of a statewide
vision for truck transportation operations using technology and regional partnerships. This master plan
will identify Motor Carrier Size and Weight (MCSAW) projects that can assist FDOT in achieving its
transportation goals. ITS uses an advanced computer, communication, and roadway technologies to
improve truck traffic flow, transit operations, incident management, emergency response, and the
dissemination of information to travelers.

This plan will provide a comprehensive evaluation of the existing FDOT MCSAW communications
network. In addition, major and minor projects to improve the communications network deployment
will be evaluated and solutions to these improvements will be provided.
