Genesis was asked to participate in a design charette to assist several neighborhood associations and business groups to develop acceptable concepts for two distinct road projects.

Lamar Boulevard is a north-south arterial road with strip shopping on both sides. Crossing it is a major one way pair of streets, 5th and 6th, that provide access to the downtown area. An innovative open air tunnel was developed which takes advantage of the natural topography and takes two lanes of north south traffic under the two cross streets. The two cross streets then revert to two way traffic and connects to the at grade service roads on each side of Lamar Boulevard. This design solved the traffic and development problems for 3 major roads in a single project.

Barton Springs Road is a four lane road that traversed a park and a residential/retail area. Through the design charettes community consensus was reached for a four lane pedestrian and bicycle friendly boulevard. The project is under design with construction expected in 1998.
