Jacksonville, FL, September 9, 2013 -- Genesis, together with Cardno Tec., is updating the Port of Fernandina's Master Plan for the Ocean Highway & Port Authority of Nassau County (OHPA). Brian Reaves, Chairman of the OHPA announced in July that a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) had been awarded to OHPA for planning related to the update of the Port of Fernandina's Master Plan and to the creation of an In-Land Port Strategic Intermodal Element for the Nassau County Comprehensive Plan. “Our charter is centered on economic development and we're confident that this planning initiative will attract more projects to the Port and to Nassau County,” Reaves explained.
The Master Plan update process will include an assessment of current and proposed infrastructure, intermodal connectivity and economic opportunities for the Port of Fernandina. The Genesis team will also provide updates to the Port Element of the City of Fernandina's Comprehensive Plan. Genesis' Project Principal Brian Wheeler who heads the firm's Jacksonville-based planning team, added “We are working with OHPA to develop a new vision for economic development in Northeast Florida that will incorporate our region's substantial resources.” Joanne Cason, Project Manager for OHPA, expects the Master Plan Update to be completed in February 2014.
