Genesis performed an evaluation of the Deerwood Improvement Association lakes to determine existing water quality and sediment levels necessary to make recommendations for improvements and sustainability of the health and performance of the lakes. The evaluation consisted of:

  • Data Collection:
    • Obtaining all existing information available from the DIA (previous studies, as-builts, drainage improvements, aerials). Obtaining aquatic vegetation and algae treatment protocol from current lake treatment contractor.
    • Preparing CADD base map of all water bodies showing drainage basins, connecting pipes, ditches, outfall structures and wetland bodies. Existing documents and data were used to generate the base map.
    • Taking water quality samples for each lake.
    • Taking multiple auger samples for each lake that showed sediment profile and an analysis of each sediment sample for sand, silt, clay, organic matter, heavy metal contamination.
    • Performing a survey of lake edge conditions for contributing factors.
  • Evaluation of Data and Report Preparation:
    • Establishing criteria of acceptable water quality standards and sedimentation levels for the water bodies.
    • Evaluating each drainage basin and determining the turn-over rate for each lake. Determining if any modifications were needed to pond drainage structures were needed to improve lake quality.
    • Reviewing data collected for water quality and sedimentation.
    • Preparing a report that documented recommended remediation program on a lake by lake basis.
    • Prioritizing costs of remediation by drainage basin, or by group of lakes, to implement a phased plan to remedy the lakes. Preparing a cost estimate for groupings of lakes to accompany the phasing plan.
  • Attending Client meetings for coordination or for presentations
