Genesis has been involved in the development of Capital Cascades Trail & Cascades Park since the initial topographic survey in 2002.  In 2006, Genesis created a Trail Master Plan for this multi-million dollar project that entails a greenway plan for a 5.2 mile corridor through Tallahassee, Florida. The plan called for trails, park and greenway amenities in combination with a stormwater retrofit master plan. The centerpiece of the project is Cascades Park, which provides opportunities for recreation, and community and cultural facilities.

The stormwater management aspect of the project involved the St. Augustine Branch and a central drainage ditch running through the site, with a total contributing drainage area of approximately 5,146 acres. Box culverts and other stormwater management facilities were designed to help provide  much needed flood relief, and include:

  • Stilling pools
  • Wet detention facilities
  • Off-line treatment ponds
  • Stream morphology enhancements
  • Trash collection devices
  • Construction of wetland habitat
  • Water quality enhancements
  • Channel stabilization

Other features of the Park include a history fence, pond overlooks, signature bridges, Korean War Memorial, Meridian Plaza, an amphitheatre, interactive water play area, walking and bicycle trails, restrooms, and other park amenities.
