Jasmine Acres Culvert Replacement Project
City residents had complained for years about the poor water quality in the bayou behind their homes after a roadway (Oelsner Street) was built across the mouth of this estuary with only a 36" corrugated metal pipe (CMP) connection. The construction of the roadway also eliminated their waterway access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Genesis Group replaced the 36" CMP with a 6' X 14' box culvert, effectively creating a bridge through which the residents could paddle their canoes or small boats. The large cross section increased water exchange during the changing tides, enhancing water quality. The project also involved minor wetland impacts (mangroves), which were replanted.
