Bond Community Neighborhood Enhancements

This project includes all, or most of, twelve streets within the Bond Community in southwest Tallahassee. 

These streets, because of their open ditches, lack of shoulder, and narrow lanes, are not able to accommodate the existing pedestrian volumes and two-way vehicular traffic.  The addition of sidewalks was a high priority given the amount of pedestrian traffic in the area and the lack of existing sidewalks. Two Public Schools, three Community Centers; a large Apartment Complex, and various local churches generate a high volume of pedestrian traffic on a daily basis. In addition, the Bond Community is home to many students of Florida A&M University, which lies just east of this community; the St. Marks Trail lies just west of this community; and StarMetro has two bus routes that pass through the community.
Most of the existing streets had open stormwater ditches directly adjacent to the roadway and very little or no shoulder which made for unsafe pedestrian access.

Improvements include:
• Reconstruction of the streets with curb and gutter
• Piping of some ditches
• The addition of sidewalks on one side of the road
• Widening of some roadways to twenty (20) feet of pavement
(a minimum of two 10’ lanes).

A Regional Stormwater Management Facility, (SWMF), designed for wet detention, was created as an amenity for the community and helps to reduce flooding while providing treatment for stormwater runoff occurring in the basin.
