Genesis Group was honored today by the Big Bend Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) with the 2009 Project of the Year Award in the Multi-Function Category.
The award was directly related to the Bond Community Neighborhood Enhancement Project in southwest Tallahassee. The community includes twelve streets, some of which had open stormwater ditches directly adjacent to roadways and very little or no shoulder which made for unsafe pedestrian access. Improvements included:
- Reconstruction of the streets with curb and gutter
- Piping of some ditches
- The addition of sidewalks on one side of the road
- Widening of some roadways to twenty (20) feet of pavement (a minimum of two 10’ lanes).
A Regional Stormwater Management Facility, (SWMF), designed for wet detention, was created as an amenity for the community and helps to reduce flooding while providing treatment for stormwater runoff occurring in the basin.
Jim Sullivan, P.E. was the responsible Project Manager for this project. Please join us in congratulating him, along with the Tallahassee team for a job well done.
