On September 21st Genesis, along with many other volunteers and partners, attended the groundbreaking event at the Big Bend Homeless Coalition's HOPE Community Center for Phase One of the new PLAYscape children’s playground.
HOPE Community provides a temporary living facility for families and individuals with the intent to help find permanent housing, healthcare, and income. Among the 140 residents, 30-40 of those are children under the age of 18.
The playground as it exists now is nothing more than a swing set and a toy bin. The new playground will consist of safety fencing, a covered pavilion, swings, playhouse, tricycle track, garden, sand box, craft area, benches and picnic tables, climbing area, and infant play area. The playground will provide a natural playscape area that will contribute to the physical and mental health, will encourage creativity, and improves cognition in both the children and adults.
Genesis provided the permitting for the 2.5 acres of land that will now hold this wonderful new children’s only area.
