Tallahassee, FL (June 21, 2010) – Genesis Group recently completed design services associated with the first installment of enhancements to Tallahassee’s Gaines Street Corridor. As part of a $10 million CRA effort, the project will focus on converting Gaines Street from a four lane road to a two lane street and increasing pedestrian traffic and safety. Aesthetic improvements include installation of eighteen feet wide sidewalks, decorative street lighting, tree wells, median landscaping, in-street bio-swales with infiltration systems, up lighting for trees, seating walls for gathering areas, and mast arm signalization.
The goal is to breathe new life into the area by bringing new retail, cultural and residential amenities to the downtown district making it a popular draw for residents and tourists.
To highlight forthcoming construction and inform its citizenry, the City of Tallahassee produced a flash mob dance on location at the intersection of Gaines Street and Railroad Avenue.
