Designed by Genesis Group and constructed by JCI General Contractors, this $600,000 (approximately) revitalization project of downtown Bainbridge will greatly encourage economic growth to the central business district while preserving the character and aesthetic value of the downtown area.
November 1, 2010 - TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Genesis Group announces completion of the Phase II Revitalization of Downtown Bainbridge. The seven block project began in November of 2009, and construction was completed at the end of September. The planning for the Phase II project was brought before the Mayor and City Council in the spring of 2006. With the consideration of GDOT and the City of Bainbridge, the Phase II effort was to expand the revitalization to portions of West Street, Broad Street, and Water Street. The design efforts included the construction of sidewalks, curbs, minor drainage work, landscaping, irrigation, street furniture, and street lighting. The sidewalks had deteriorated over the years making it difficult for pedestrian traffic to maneuver. Adding the new sidewalks makes the city more pedestrian friendly while improving access to businesses, and improving the overall aesthetics of this already beautiful downtown area. Chris Ossa, Design Engineer for Genesis Group said, "The main challenge was to retrofit an antiquated downtown area to the current design and safety standards required by the Georgia Department of Transportation."
Overall, the City of Bainbridge has been pleased with the work performed on this project by both Genesis & JCI. The City has seen definitive improvements from Phase I to Phase II, and is excited with the beautification of the downtown area.
