The City of Tallahassee and Genesis were presented with the ULI North Florida's Award of Excellence (Downtown Category) for the City's Gaines Street Revitalization on October 11 in Jacksonville.

The Gaines Street project involved the complete redesign and reconstruction of a 1.25-mile segment of a key urban transportation corridor that links Florida State University, the Capitol and Florida A&M University. The ULI Award recognized the project's success in revitalizing the corridor and for creating a vibrant, multi-functional streetscape that accommodates vehicles, city transit, pedestrians and cyclists as well as outdoor events. Landscaping, public art and seating invite pedestrian use, and the extensive public infrastructure improvements throughout the corridor have attracted more than $400 million in private investment to date. A wide range of new residential, mixed-use and retail projects are under construction or planned along the Gaines Street corridor.

Mark Llewellyn, CEO of Genesis, said "Converting a heavily traveled four-lane roadway to a beautiful multi-modal corridor certainly has its challenges, however, the end result has provided an amazing catalyst for economic development along the corridor. Receiving this award is truly an honor, and we cannot say enough about the City of Tallahassee's vision and fortitude to see that vision through to reality."

The ULI Awards of Excellence program recognizes planning, design, construction and the economic viability of public and private sector projects in North Florida. The program is intended to identify and promote best practices in all aspects of real estate development and place making.
